The piece Edo de Waart discussed in the video is "Iris dévoilée "(蝶戀花), which will be played by Milwaukee Symphony on May 11 at Carnegie Hall.
From this interview, then it makes great sense why that concert has Messiaen and Debussy in the first half, then Chen's work in the second half. Almost like a French heritage.
It doesn't really matter that Chen is not a French. But spiritually, or artistically, the link is there.
